I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. The Supreme Court is going to hear a case that may remove “under God” from The Pledge of Allegiance. The ACLU, and others don’t like the phrase “under God”.
Are we really one nation? Are we really indivisible? Do we really have liberty and justice for all? One nation, what does that mean? The definition according to Webster’s is- “(2) : a politically organized nationality (3) : a non-Jewish nationality <why do the nations conspire — Psalms 2:1 (Revised Standard Version)> b : a community of people composed of one or more nationalities and possessing a more or less defined territory and government c : a territorial division containing a body of people of one or more nationalities and usually characterized by relatively large size and independent status”.
One of the definitions says a non-Jewish nationality, now does that mean that Webster’s is anti-Semitic or does that mean Jews aren’t a part of our nation? If you look up the word indivisible, you will find more interpretations than I want to go into. None of them describe our country or our form of Government. As far as Liberty and Justice for all, if you think it exists or ever will go beyond a goal that we can strive for, you are wrong.
With all the possible flaws that could be griped about, why all the complaining about the phrase “under God”? It doesn’t say Lutheran God, Catholic God, Muslim God, Buddhist God, or any other specific God. It just says God. Atheists worship their own God, but they don’t realize it. I don’t think God is the part people object to, I think it’s the word “under” they don’t like. Human nature is like the nature of any other beast on our planet. They all strive to be the “top dog”. Too many people in our society want to be in charge, not just in charge of themselves, but others as well. Our Government has a lot of people who like to be in control of someone else. Our schools are more apt to teach us to accept a hierarchical lifestyle than they are to impart true knowledge. Our Medical Community is structured to where the patient is at the bottom end of the food chain. Our Churches may be one of the most hierarchical groups of all. They all seem to think they are above what a person feels is right from the inside. Well this is a news site and I have a news flash for all of you. We are all “under” God. We will eventually learn that, it’s up to us the form the lesson will take.
