On July 29, 2012, at approximately 3:10 pm, the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a missing person on Sand Lake near Warba. It was learned that the missing party’s lawn mower was found near the lake and his work gloves were floating in the water.

Itasca County Deputies responded to the scene and learned that, Hal William Leasure, age 68, of Warba was found deceased floating face down in the water approximately 50 feet from the end of the dock. The victim was pulled to shore by bystanders. Itasca County Investigators concluded that the victim had been filling buckets with lake water off the end of his dock and fell in.

Nashwauk Ambulance transported the deceased to Grand Itasca Medical Center were an autopsy was performed determining that drowning was the cause of death. Also responding to the incident was the Warba First Responders.
