Valley Forest Resources is said to be pretty much history. They closed their sawmill operation a few years ago and reportedly gave their approximately 50 employees just 20 minutes to leave the property. Some of the employees had reportedly worked for the mill at or near minimum wage for as long as 20 years. In the past the mill had employed more than the ones who were on the premises the day they shut down. The buildings and equipment are being cleaned out after being sold at auction. It is reported that there were large quantities of oil spilled on the ground over the years. The pellet plant was in operation with a very small crew as of this article. VFR reportedly received low interst loans provided to the community to help provide jobs and improve the local economy.
